Speaking about the best Cantonese dining place in Jakarta, what comes in my mind at the first place is Li Feng by Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Located in the heart of Jakarta, Li Feng presented a modern Chinese luxury restaurant. As I came here during Chinese new year’s eve, we booked a private dining area which can load up to 15 people.
Li feng offered us to order ‘Yee Sang’ a traditional chinese dish which symbolizes prosperity. Yee sang is served on a large plate and contains different color and ingredient. Each color and ingredient represent different meanings too. Orange for luck, green for spirit/ passion, white for prosperity, raw fish for abundance throughout the year, and sesame oil for wealth. We have to stand and holding chopsticks then stirring it together while saying lo hey lo hey lo kow fong sang sue hey. The higher you raise your chopstick it believes to bring you more luck and prosperity.
I tried my first Grilled and Roasted Suckling Pig, to be honest based on my personal preference it doesn’t suit my taste but it just because I personally don’t really eat suckling pork but my whole family said it was a good suckling pork, there is no stink like other usual pork. We also ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken with Pineapple and Bell Pepper, it tastes mediocre nothing special about it, I quite often taste this at other restaurants with more reasonable prices. Then we have Sauteed Beef with Szechuan Pepper and Chili, the beef is very soft and melting in the mouth with a hint of spiciness from the Szechuan pepper and chili. Other than that we have Deep-Fried Swan Dumpling with Black Pepper Duck Meat, the butler said it is their signature dim sum menu. They put the duck meat generously, you can taste the duck meat on the first bite. Their signature menu was amazing! Last but not least we have Blueberry Snow Skin Dumpling as our dessert, the skin of this sweet dumpling is very soft. It is sweet and smooth in a good way, I can say if they are using fresh blueberry.
The staff is proactive and friendly, they are very concern about customer happiness. Judging from the place and food actually the total price is reasonable. The average spending is around IDR 600.000 – 2.000.000/ 2pax. My overall new year’s eve experience in Li feng was very memorable.
