It is my fortune to be able to celebrated my 17th birthday in Tugu Kuntskring. Back to the 19’s era this building was not a restaurant but it is an art gallery and it seems they still preserve the “art gallery”. Tugu kunstkring is a legacy from the colonial era. It was built in 1914 known as Nederlandsc-Indische Kunstkring of The Dutch East Indies. You know when you entered the dining place if Tugu Kunstkring is not just an ordinary restaurant it is a history.
You will be welcomed with a crystal chandelier and gold color furniture that makes you feel like a royal family. There are some painting hanged in the wall, but what took my attention the most is the Diponegoro’s painting. The manager told me about the painting, she said it was paint by a famous Indonesian painting artist, there is only 1 painting of that version and she told me the history about Diponegoro Prince.
Tugu Kunstkring was giving a perfect table arrangement for my birthday, it is simple but classy at the same time. My birthday dinner began with traditional Indonesian music, then a parade of dancers appeared while carrying baskets of food that were ready to be served. I’m surprised, I never thought that they will be very thoughtful of me.
I ordered Risoles salad with mustard sauce and Nonja Popiah for appetizer. I had ‘Opor Ayam’ is it a boiled chicken marinated with Indonesian spices in coconut milk soup, ‘Sate Lembut Betawi‘ a ground chicken with Betawi special seasoning and ‘Karedok’ or as known as raw Indonesian salad with peanut sauce. All of my friends said it was the best ‘Opor Ayam’ in town. Lastly, I ordered ‘Es Campur Kunstkring’ for the dessert. It is a signature dessert menu from Kunstkring, a tall mountain of ice with combination of eight exotic tropical fruits young coconut, black cincau, palm fruit, pineapple, jackfruit, avocado, ‘selasih’ seeds, and the most important its blended with durian sauce.
My overall fine dining with Tugu Kunstkring was very amazing and I recommend you all to visit them during dinner time because it is the time for them to turn on their chandelier and make the whole ambience more intimacy and splendid.
